Zuhura Mtenguzi

Habari! My name is Zuhura Mtenguzi. I was born and raised in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where I also completed most of my previous education. I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Heritage Management from the University of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania. Therefore, I am a professionally trained Africanist cultural heritage manager and museum educator.
I am currently employed as a conservator of monuments and sites at the National Museum of Tanzania. I am a co-founder and the current Vice-Chairperson of Tanzania Heritage Pro-Development (TAHEDO), a dynamic youth-led organization dedicated to preserving Tanzania’s cultural and natural heritage. Additionally, I serve as the Coordinator for the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Emerging Professionals in the African Region. I am actively involved in several prestigious organizations, including the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the International Council of Museums (ICOM), which demonstrates my commitment to promoting and conserving cultural heritage both regionally and globally.
This program has been a valuable opportunity to diversify my career and broaden my interests both intellectually and geographically. I genuinely believe that it has advanced my intellectual, professional, and personal connection to my passions. Combining Heritage Studies and African Studies offers a comprehensive understanding of the cultural diversity and historical aspects of the African continent. The perspectives I gained from this program have been crucial in shaping my ability to understand, navigate, and participate in various international activities related to cultural heritage across Africa and around the world. My diverse experiences and strong dedication to heritage preservation position me to make a meaningful contribution to the field. I am committed to further developing my expertise through the theories and practices I have learned from this program.
