The First Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in African Studies

Oluwayemisi Elizabeth Ojo

I grew up in a typical Nigerian city, where my memories remain filled with colour, beauty, green landscapes, and a vibrant community of resilient people. This is the image of Africa I continue to hold in my mind, even when confronted with difficult realities, such as living in ethno-religious crisis throughout my childhood and losing loved ones to it. Or, my wrenching experience documenting the displacement of communities across north-central Nigeria due to conflict. Africa, like every continent, has many stories, sour and sweet. It is the narratives that seek to balance these stories that I like to engage with in my everyday endeavour.

My name is Yemisi. I hold a BA in English Language, an MA in European Interdisciplinary Masters, African Studies and currently doing a PhD stint in Education Sciences. This gives me the opportunity to continue to engage with interdisciplinary debates on technology, governance, and education as it relates to Africa. I aspire to contribute to shaping policies and practices that strengthen education and development cooperation in Africa and globally.
Professionally, I have worked with the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, and the World Intellectual Property Organisation, developing inclusive educational resources and leading training programmes across multiple regions.

I am currently based in Switzerland, and when I am not doing all the above, I am organising poetry nights, and visiting tiny swiss villages to gather stories I share in my newsletter; Sanity Stop.
