Latifat Omolewa Shobogun
My name is Latifat Omolewa Shobogun; however, I prefer to be addressed by my second name, Omolewa. I hold a Bachelor's degree in History and International Studies from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria, where I graduated top of my class and as the “best all-round” student in International Relations in the university. It was during my undergraduate studies that my interest in the development process of the world - especially that of Africa – became deep-seated.
I am very passionate about the development of Africa. I love Africa and I love being African. I have a firm belief that leadership is the most important thing needed to develop Africa. Considering the fast-growing population and potential of African youths, I am committed to building young Africans into leaders who are fit to contribute to Africa’s development across different spheres of influence. To this end, I founded Ubuntu Leadership Education for Development Initiative (ULEDi) through which I (in collaboration with my team) equip young Africans in leadership skills and values and educate them on the opportunities and challenges of Africa's development in different sectors.
While my key areas of interest are development policy, political and economic governance, and youth development, I am always eager to learn about everything that affects Africa. This explains why European Interdisciplinary Master African Studies (EIMAS) - with its interdisciplinary approach to the study of Africa - is a perfect program for me.
I publish articles on Africa’s development process on my blog at omolewashobogun.com. I use storytelling and anecdotes to simplify Africa’s development process and to make it more relatable to a larger African audience.
I speak my mother tongue, Yoruba, as well as English, French, and Pidgin English. I am currently learning Portuguese and German.
